- Fusion PC and SoftMAC 2000
- Emulators Inc.
-
-
-
- MAKE SURE TO VISIT EMULATORS’ WEB SITE
- <http://www.emulators.com>
- FOR THE ONLINE TUTORIAL AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING AND USING THESE
- EMULATORS
-
- These are PC files - they DO NOT run under MacOS!
-
- - FUSION PC is the Macintosh emulator for use on MS-DOS (or MS-DOS prompts in
- Windows 95/98) while SOFTMAC is specifically written for and optimized for
- newer versions of Windows such as Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium.
-
- Use one emulator or the other based on what OS in running on your PC
-
- -This products runs Mac software on a PC, not the other way around: This is
- not Virtual PC, it’s Virtual PC in reverse!
-
- - These free versions emulate the 68000 and 68040 based Macs only. To get
- PowerPC emulation you’ll need to purchase the new emulator.
-
- - Both emulators require that you supply a ROM BIOS image from your existing
- 68000-68040 Macintosh and that you have a bootable Mac
- OS boot disk and Mac software to run. Any boot disk from System 6.0.5 up
- through Mac OS 8.1 can be used provided it’s on 1.44M HD floppy disk or on
- CD-ROM. A utility to dump the Mac ROM to disk is included as part of the demo.
-
- - The FUSION PC product is completely free.: It’s the full version.
-
- - The SOFTMAC product runs in demo mode, and two of the limits are that memory
- is limited to 14 megabytes at most and screen size is limited to 640x480 at
- most. When you purchase a license to the product, you get a unique serial
- number which then unlocks the product and gives you the full 1024 megabyte
- support and 1600x1280 graphics support.
-
- NOTE: MACHOME EXCLUSIVE
-
- There is a special serial number printed in the magazine: It unlocks the
- memory and screen size through the end of January 2001. Not only do you get
- the demo, you get most of the full functionality of the product as well!
-
- The code is a time limited code which will allow you to go past the 8 meg
- 640x480 limit of the demo, and to go up to 1024 meg and 1600x1280 resolution
- The code expires at the end of Jan 31 2001 - You’ll need to buy the full
- product from us after that point.

- IMPORTANT message from Darek Mihocka
- President, Emulators Inc.

-
- Thank you for trying out our products!
-
- Now, PC-Bound Mac addicts can enjoy their favorite interface and programs,
-
-
- Installing SoftMAC:
-
- The first step is to run the installer, the SETUP.EXE file (also available from
- from <ftp://www.emulators.com>.)
-
- SETUP.EXE will decompress the self extracting archive and put the SoftMac files
- in a folder on the PC called C:\GEMUL8R. It’ll extract 3 versions of the
- SoftMac Macintosh emulator, plus Gemulator (our Atari ST emulator), plus
- Xformer (our Atari 8-bit emulator), and Gemulator Explorer (the utility to
- allow Windows to surf Mac disks).
-
- SOFTMACD.EXE (SoftMac 2000 Demo version) runs in demo mode and can’t be
- unlocked. It’s limited to the 14 meg 640x480.
-
- SOFTMAC.EXE is the basic version of SoftMac which too comes up in demo mode
- but can be unlocked with the code. The basic version support both 68000 and
- 68040 emulation, so it can emulate everything from a original Mac Plus (black
- and white running System 6 and 7) up to the 68040 Quadra models running Mac OS
- 8, color, etc.
-
- - If you only need 68040 support and not the older 68000 support, you can run
- SOFTMAC2.EXE (SoftMac 2000 Premium) which is specially optimized for running
- 68040 code and Mac OS 8. You’ll get up to twice the performance running Mac OS
- 8 on this version than the basic version. It too can be unlocked with the code.
-
- WHEN RUNNING EITHER SOFTMAC.EXE OR SOFTMAC2.EXE, SELECT THE “IMPORT
- CONFIGURATION…” MENU ITEM. THEY’LL BE PRESENTED WITH A FILE OPEN DIALOG. THEY
- THEN ENTER THE CODE AS THE FILENAME. NO SPACES, NO FILE EXTENSIONS, JUST ENTER
- IT AS IT IS PRINTED (CASE MATTERS). THEY THEN CLICK THE OPEN BUTTON. THEY’LL BE
- PRESENTED WITH A DIALOG BOX THAT ASKS “THIS FILE DOES NOT EXIST. CREATE FILE?”
- TO WHICH THEY CLICK YES.
-
- - at this point, click on the Help About menu item. In that dialog box it will
- show “Registered to: MacHome” and “Product ID: 012001”. This is how you know
- the key was accepted. The expiration of the extended demo is end of January
- 2001.
-
- Refer to our online demo page <http://www.emulators.com/demo> for the
- remaining installation instructions for the product, such as how to copy over
- and install the Mac BIOS ROM file, how to get the Mac OS booted up and
- installed on the PC, etc.
-
- READ THAT FIRST!
-
- Even through it’s very similar to booting up and installing the Mac OS on a
- real Mac, it may be good to brush up and follow our instructions to the letter.
-
- The ROM BIOSes that these versions of SoftMac support are any 68000, 68020,
- 68030, or 68040 based Mac ROMs.
-
- That includes Mac Plus, Mac SE, Mac Classic, Mac II, Mac IIx, Mac IIcx, Mac
- IIci, Mac IIsi, Mac IIfx, Mac LC, Mac LC II, Mac LC III, Mac LC 475, Mac LC
- 580, Mac LC 630, Quadra 700, Quadra 900, Quadra 950, Quadra 610, Quadra 650,
- and all the Centris and Performa equivalents of the Quadra models.
-
- For info on PowerPC emulation, you’ll need to either visit our 30 foot booth
- at Macworld San Francisco in January 2001 (can’t miss it!) or read about it on
- our web site. At this time we do not have a free demo that support PowerPC but
- that may change by January. We plan to have a G4 emulator on display at
- Macworld running Mac OS X, but that depends on getting our hands on the Mac OS
- X beta for testing and quality control.
-
- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
